The Gem City - Ratnapura

Ratnapura, a world-famous city for gems in Sri Lanka. It's also known as the Gem City. Ratnapura belongs to the wet zone. Most of the year, the public of Ratnapura have been experienced rainy weather. Gem City is located in the Ratnapura district of Sabaragamuwa province. Gem mining, Tea plantation, Paddy cultivation and also Rubber industry are the most engaged industries in this area. In the British colony, Ratnapura was one of the economical fortresses of Sri Lanka. Ratnapura is a well-known tourist attraction in Sri Lanka. There are many waterfalls, rivers and dams, religious places that can be found who visit Ratnapura. Adam's peak, Kirindi Ella, Kalu Ganga are some of them. In the monsoon seasons, residents of Ratnapura experience flooding and earthquakes. It has been recognised, geographical location and abundance of rivers directly affect this. However, Ratnapura is one of the scenic cities and also a favourable area for residence.
